Watch this Topic. Report inappropriate content.{/INSERTKEYS}{/PARAGRAPH} It seems like when a well turned out guys gives a woman the once over it is a compliment , but when a slob or low life does it then it's insulting. My friend went to Yonkers last Sat. It's only 6 bucks for a beer! Thats why I questioned does AC really want to spend big money fixing up the storefronts of Palm Readers and people that sell misprinted T-Shirts? But it seems so many people are just slobs - The boardwalk on Memorial day weekend was a good example. But I think it is mostly as they cut through the casino to the dance clubs. I think the casinos are using aspirational advertising when portraying their clients as dressed up. As far as super casual alienating the more dressy , what I was referring to was what happens when a woman in a sexier outfit walks by the guys at the slots who either look like they are on their lunch hour from a Harlem Car Wash or look like like a bunch of dirty old men with cigars hanging out their mouths. In one of them , after checking out the bell boy asks them if they want their Dilbert clothes back and of course they say no. I think casinos would alienate a lot of their blue collar clientel, as well as older people and people that come down on the bus, if they tried to force everyone to be "dressy" at the casino. It has always amazed me how the casinos portray the customers. And that is only because we stay in a room where we can change. I mean come on, you go to the casino to gamble, not have tea with the queen. I also don't think, "Oh, I'm going to the casino, gotta dress up. Apparently people in the business still like the concept. I remembe those times when AC had a jacket required , no sneakers , etc. In fact why does the TV show Vegas and most Vegas movies show the dressed up Vegas , more like the Vegas of the 60s and 70s. Is this the type of crowd they would really like to attract? Another thing just popped into my head. Hence all the sophisticated portrayals in the media and advertising. Although there are some people I would like to hit over the head and ask them what they were thinking when they got dressed this morning, I would never want a dress code. Certainly not on the boardwalk or on Caesar's Pier. Of course the casino doesn't want to alienate these people. Log in to get trip updates and message other travelers. You'll see some of the under 30 dressy crowd in the Borgata casino on a Sat. And then head to the buffet. It just so happens that when I leave the house I'm wearing a skirt most of the time. Browse forums All Browse by destination. I can understand that people don't want to dress up if they are going to be stuck on an Acadamy Bus for several hours down to AC. Trop and some other places HAVE put in some mild dress codes. I would never want that to happen again. But you don't see it in the casino or the restaurants. All forums. I think many people are self concious about dressing nice because of all the"extra casual" people in the casinos. They both do very well! He said the guys and girls were mostly blue jeans crowd. Or maybe they just perceive you as "more important" , or more expecting of better treatment? I always think "Why the hell don't they come in and sit down! Good point about the worst dressed having the diamond players cards. What's strange, though, is some of the worst dressed people I've seen in AC are waiting on various "diamond lines". The truth is it is rare to see a woman in a dress , even a skirt and blouse , in the casinos themselves. BUT that brings me back to my original point. There are a couple spots where over 30 people can dress up , notably the Louge at Steak 38 and the Martini Bar at Club Laguna , both on Brigatine. I just saw the ad for Yonkers Raceway Casino. I too remember waiting on line, wearing a sport coat, trying to get into Resorts. But the casinos actually make more money After Dark from non gambling. If we came on a bus we wouldn't be able to wear those clothes all day. Must be the allergies lol. Especially in the poker room! I alway see a lot of people standing outside places like the Wave ot the Eden watching people dance and socialize. So it seems that it may be in their interest to encourage people to dress up for those things. The North NJ owner encourages people to dress up and only has a basic dress code No sneakers , etc. I'm sure the Casinos would prefer to have their customers be comfortable as well. I can see people sitting at a game for a long time wanting to be comfy. I did see an awful lot of slovenly dressed people on my last AC visit, but my favorite is when I see people running around the casino in their beach wear. They "zip off" their outer shells to reveal cocktail dresses , and suits for the guys. Then the people from the dance clubs won't feel uncomfortable about dropping some money in the casinos. Thats when people spend money on shows , dinner , night clubs. Also the casinos want people to stay over rather than drive or bus because that means more profit. The only time the DW and I dress up is when we go out to eat at the gourmet restaurant. Interesting point about people coming to gamble. But lots of people drive or stay over. Who doesn't? Do they think showing this gives a better impression. What will the NYC train crowd be once it starts? But that makes some sense as these people probably dress to pretty much park their A doubles at their favorite slot machine all day. I usually wear a dress or skirt in the casinos sometimes shorts , but I don't feel self concious about all the "super casual" people. It seems they have the attitude right or wrong that a bird in the hand It is very funny watching those ads! We want to be comfy and relax while playing at machines. You would think people would feel funny gambling in a bikini, tank top, short shorts and flip flops all covered in a sandy residue but no, they don't seem to mind! Connie K. The people show up at the casino dressed like Dilbert the cubical dweller in the comics. Casino dress : reality vs what they show. Then they are shown eating , dancing , playing with crowds of like dressed people. DH and I don't dress up unless we are eating somewhere nice what I call a fancy dinner - LOL , but we always try to look our best no matter what we have on. Apparently someone used to think that a dress code was good for a society dealing with casinos. Level Contributor. It is true that the Mohegan Sun ads portray the casino as encouraging the "Dilberts" to come and fake it. Mary and I definitely get better treatment when we are dressed up. The help sems to take notice of people having a "special" time and want to contribute. {PARAGRAPH}{INSERTKEYS}I just saw three TV ads for casinos. There are about 7 or 8 dance clubs in AC where the mostly under 30 women dress up. Are they trying to say THIS place is "special " or "better"? The funny thing is, on the occasions that we come up from our vacation house a bit down the shore to the south and have dressed usually because we were going to a nice place for dinner , we found we got treated differently. I find on avg. The NYC owner says let people come as they want and let the crowd become what it wants as long as she is making money. Atlantic City forums. So maybe encouraging people to dress up is a way of encouraging them to stay over. But exactly why do they do this? I had the sport coat on because I was forced to wear one, not by choice! Security guards saying to have a nice evening, cocktail people being friendlier, more attention when we walked into the restaurant The majority of people are going to want to dress for comfort when they plan on sitting at slot machines for most of their day. Same deal , lots of very well dressed people. The show " Vegas " always shows the casino full of women in sexy dresses a few will be in upscale pants suits. WHY do the ads for all the casinos encourage and portray the crowd as educated , socially adept , sexy and Very Dressed Up, with the exception of Mohegan Sun which pretty much says come on down in your Dockers and polo shirt and fake it. But it seems even though this is what the casinos are advertising for they can't seem to get them in.
